It is no more news that the almighty Leboku Festival 2022 has come and gone.
New yams have been harvested, Mr and Miss Leboku 2022 winners have been selected, and cars and gift items also have been given to various winners of the Leboku Festival 2022.
The Leboku celebration usually takes place at the Peace Stadium, Ugep, the headquarters of the Yakurr Local Government Area in Cross River, where Tourists and lovers of culture converged at the Peace Stadium to witness the Leboku New Yam festival. The Festival also usually commenced with the Cross River State Governor dressed in traditional attire and paying traditional homage to the Obol-Lopon of Ugep and the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Local Government Area.
But unfortunately, this year Leboku Festival was not celebrated at the Peace Stadium because the Present Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben. Ayade did not come for the celebration as other Governors Like Mr. Liyel Imoke and Mr. Donald Duke usually does every year reign as Governors of the State.
Gift Items, cars, Motorcycles, etc were given to winners at the Obol Lopon Palace instead of the Peace Stadium as it has always been done since the reign of Mr. Donal Duke.

In the remarks of the Obol Lopon during the sharing of gift items, the paramount ruler described Leboku as an annual celebration that can be likened to the annual St Valentine Celebration and commended those involved in ensuring the success of the Leboku Festival 2022.
The Obol Lopon also explained that the Leboku has been celebrated by the Yakurr People since the 16th century when the people migrated from “Akpa” to their present locations.
Before now, Leboku, which means, a period for celebration in Lokaa language had been an exclusive affair of the Yakurr People for celebration and thanksgiving to God and the ancestral spirits of the land for granting them a successful half-year harvest of yams from the farms.
The Obol Lopon Thanked the state Governor, MTN Nigeria, and other sponsors for providing the star prizes for Mr. Leboku, Miss. Leboku, wrestlers, the Best Yam Harvester, and other hosts of winners.
