CHRONOLOGY OF (CHIEFS) YABOL LOPON OF UGEP WITH DATES

Below is the full list of Chiefs who have ruled the Ugep community from their migration from Akpa to date:

1. Obol Oka from  1746 to 1788  (42 years)

2. Obol Ayor from  1788 to 1800 (12 years)

3. Obol Ejah from  1800 to 1821  (21 years)

4. Obia Obol from  1821 to 1830  (9 years)

5. Obol Uket (The son of Obia Obol) from  1830 to 1851  (21 years)

6. Obol Ebri Ekpani from  1851 to 1860   (9 years)

7.  Obol Otu Ekpola from  1860 to 1874  (14 years)

8. Obol Usani Ubangha from  1874 to 1883 (9 years)

9. Obol Omini (Okpan) from  1883 to 1908  (25 years)

10. Obol Efah Okoi Ubi Agbam from  1908 to 1920 (12 years)

11. Obol Ikpi Inah Abagama (Okpan) from  1920 to 1940  (20 years)

12. Obol Etim Ubi (aka Obol Obu) from  1940 to 1951  (12 years)

13. Obol Mbui Ubi from  1951 to 1957  (6 years)

14. Chief Pius Ikpi Ofem from 1957 to 1980  (23 years)

15. Obol Michael Enang Obeten Okpan from  1980 to 1986  (6 years)

16. Obol Ubi Ujong Inah from 1986 to 2015  (29 years)

16. Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng from 2015 – Till Date

The Royal Family of Ugep (Leboljimo) is made up of three families:

  1. Yabol
  2. Yakunkunebol
  3. Yakpolobol

From 1913 to 1986, the Yabol royal family provided the Yabol Lopon for Ugep. In 1986, the Yakunkunebol royal family provided the Obol Lopon of Ugep who was Obol Ubi Ujong Inah who died in the year 2015, and in the year 2015, the Yakpolobol royal family provided the Obol Lopon of Ugep who is Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng.

THE HIERARCHY OF LEADERSHIP OF THE UGEP PEOPLE OF YARKURR

  1. Obol Lopon

The Obol Lopon is the traditional leader of Ugep and the Paramount Ruler of the Yakurr Local Government Area. He is the Priest of the Royal Family (Leboljimo) of Ugep. The Obol Lopon is an advocate of peace and unity in the Yakurr nation. He is the highest authority in the Ugep Community and also other Yakurr Villages at large.

  1. The Okpebili of Ugep (Prime Minister)

He is the council’s Speaker and custodian of the Edel Lopon of Ugep.

  1. Onun Eko:

This is the Commander-in-Chief of the traditional militia. Ad Hoc army is usually packaged under the Onun Eko to confront and fight against any security threat in the Ugep community.

  1. Edjukwa:

These are the town criers that represent each ward (Kekpatu) in the Ugep community. Each town cry is usually nominated by his council ward.

5. Ogbolia:
This comprises men who are the chairmen of the ward organization for the formation of age grades in the Ugep community.

6. Bina:
This comprises all the heads of the matrilineage in the Ugep community. All the maternal families in Ugep have one head who is the Leader. This leader with other heads of maternal families in Ugep makes up the “Bina”.

7. Other Chiefs:

Other local or small chiefs such as the Clan heads, paternal family heads, street heads, etc., followed the Bina in the Ugep hierarchy of chiefs.
